Charley Horse

I woke up in the middle of the night with the most wicked charley horse! I had to get out of bed and walk around the house to get it to uncramp. Unfortunately, it is still very tight this morning. Ever had one of those? They are awful. I looked it up on Webmd.com and found that I have three things that could be contributing to the cramps but I can't change any of them.

Just heard from my daughter, Hannah. She has just found out she has a herniated disc in her back. She is only 26 years old!

We are all falling apart!

Finished

I finished my "Leftover Socks" last night. They look a little wierd, but I think socks can be a little wierd.

I then cast on some socks for Jake. I still have my black sweater and a lace scarf in the works as well. This is the year to knit down the stash! Sweaters up next, Flyingdales by Lisa Lloyd and a zip cardigan for my son Robert.

Summer is coming and I can't wait.

On the needles...

I have three projects going right now. That is pretty normal. I have a black top down cardigan that I am chugging away at. It is on size 2 needles and so is taking a really long time and since it is plain stocking stitch, is really boring. But I need a little black sweater, so maybe it will be done by fall. I am also doing a lace weight scarf and a pair of plain socks out of leftover sock yarn. I have finished one and will post a picture later this weekend.

I find I don't seem to have as much knitting time as I used to. Maybe it's because I want to be outside? Spring makes me want to spend all my time outdoors. I'm sure that's because I've been cooped up inside all winter.

March!!!!

It seems that quarterly posting is about all I'm going to do here. I try to be better, but I guess I get so busy with life that I don't have much to say. The world keeps turning and we keep going. All in the family who should be employed, are employed. In this economy, that's great!

We are all semi-well. Just getting over a round of cold and flu and the little guy, Jake, got a MRSA virus. He is on the mend and we are all grateful.

Happy New Year!

So much has happened this year! Got my first MAC! My son introduced me to Facebook and Twitter. My whole family was here for Christmas! My husband and I both still have our jobs! We got a kitten...see above. His name is Indy. No we don't like auto racing, we like Indiana Jones!

I have knit alot this past year as well. I didn't even realize how much I knit till I started to look back. Bonus, both my daughters asked to learn how to knit this year as well...

We moved to a new house in November. Check out this picture of our home in the last major snowstorm we had...

I have high hopes for the new year, despite the dire predictions for the economy and the dismal political decisions that we have made...

I noticed...

that when I ride the subway to work in the mornings and I take out my knitting people avoid sitting or standing near me until there is just no more room...I don't think it's me because that doesn't happen when I don't knit...

Any ideas?

vacation time!

We are finally going to go on a short vacation next week. No idea where we are going or what we are doing, just going to pack the car with the camping gear and go! I can't wait.

Update

Once again, time has gotten away from me...I'm not sure I'll ever get the hang of blogwriting. I love to read them, but can't seem to find the time or intersting things to say to put on my own...

On the knitting front, I have hooked my daugher, so to speak. She is busy making simple bags and enjoying it. Soon the socks will follow. As Stephanie says.."Resistance is futile."

I have four projects going and one to finish up with buttons. All are posted on my Ravelry account. I am socks1956.

On the home front, Hannah is still looking for a job, but she is now a register student at Bunker Hill Community College! My other daughter, Alex, is also attending an online university as well as holding down a full time job and raising her son single handedly. My son Robert is considering Americorps very seriously as a way to help him figure out what he wants out of life.

Life is pretty good.

So.....

It's been a while since I've posted here. Here is a brief synopsis of life since March.

1. Hannah and Jake are back living with us. This is both good, love Jake so much, and bad, four people in a two bedroom apt is a little tight.

2. Hannah is having to go through a custody battle in her divorce. Note: Jakob will leave here over my dead body!

3. Saw the Yarn Harlot last weekend at WEBS! I went with my knitting friend, Sara, and we had a blast. I bought way too much at WEBS, but oh well, it's only money. Right?

4. Knitting continues apace. I have finished many socks and two sweaters. Pictures will go up on my flickr and ravelry spaces very soon.

5. Trying to keep up with my reading as well. Just finished, Looking for Alaska by John Green. Very good, it was recommeded to me by my son. Also just finished Into the Wild by John Krakauer. Very sad story. Need to see the movie.

6. Anxiously awaiting the new Indiana Jones moves! Yeah!

7. Can't wait for the lilacs to bloom!

LAZY....

I have been very lax (so what else is new) about blogging. It seems I just can't get the knack of writing about nothing (which is what my life pretty much is...nothing). Life continues on...shit happens or doesn't. Some days are good, some are bad, some are just there.

Knitting is going along nicely. I'm working on a pair of socks, a scarf and a sweater. Maybe I'll someday get the knack of posting pictures? What do you think?

A New Year...

Well, what do you know, the new year came! It's not like it's a surprise is it? It comes every year, just like clockwork. You go along and bang, December 31st arrives and so does the New Year! I think it's great really. Really. It's just that it comes so fast...faster and faster every single year. Pretty soon I'm going to turn around and find that yesterday was Jan. 1 and today is Dec. 31.

I hear you laughing at me. Just you wait, your time will come.

Blue Christmas

I have been feeling a little blue lately...not really sad but not really happy either. My husband and I have been working opposite schedules for almost a month now and I am really hoping this is the last week of this. I am also missing my kids and grandkids a great deal. I really , really, really wish they could all be here for Christmas. I will get to see my son, so that is good but I want the rest of them here as well.

Knitting news...I was working on the Gossamer Shell Scarf and I RAN OUT OF YARN!!!! Now I am on the hunt to find something similar enough that I can finish the scarf. ARGHHH!

I continue to work on Hannah's blanket but find it very boring, I will keep plugging at it though cause she really wants it.

I have loads of projects I want to begin but I can't make up my mind what to make...ah well. I think that is the blues talking.

And so it begins....

Today I put up a small, pathetic Christmas Tree at work. It is actually quite pretty, even though it is small and pathetic. However, it is better than no tree at all.

I work in an historical building that has been converted to offices and the first floor still looks like it did when this was a home. So....it needs some Christmas! I can envision it festooned (I love that word...festooned!) with greenery and deep red velvet bows. Candles in profusion and a lovely tall Christmas tree. This house was built in 1877 and is quite beautiful. I am so glad to have an office/home here.

Merry Christmas to all...and so it begins.

Pictures and Stuff

My blog is so boring without pictures! I need to figure this picture thing out. Also I need to get my own camera since my husband always has the camera with him.

Any advice about uploading pics?

I can see the end on my pullover! Two or so more rounds on the neck and sew up the underarms and we are done! I can't believe I actually finished a sweater, granted it took me a couple of months but I have done other things during that time as well. Finished, a couple pair of socks, scarf for my son, started a blanket for my daughter, working on another blanket for my grandson...you get the idea. I think I like doing sweaters though and plan to start another one as soon as I can get the yarn. Up next is this sweater from Interweave Knits. I plan to knit it in KnitPicks Palette in the Nutmeg colorway. I hope it turns out.

Our little knitting group that meets on Sundays is going well. We are planning a road trip to WEBS on Sunday, Dec. 16 for a book launch. It should be lots of fun. If you live in the South Shore area of Boston you should come join us. We meet at Borders in Braintree from 2-4 on Sundays.

Next weekend is tree weekend so this week I have to go through all the decorations and make sure we don't need anything. Wish me luck!

All is quiet....for now.

Whew! the holiday is over... all was quiet at my house. Just me and my husband for dinner this year. I had a lot of time to knit over the long weekend. I finished my basket weave socks and am almost done with my zimmerman pullover. When it's done I'll post a picture. I'm quite proud of it. It is my first attempt at a Fair Isle type sweater. Not real Fair Isle just the yoke area. You'll see.

So the shopping starts in full swing now since we have to get all the stuff mailed off in just two weeks time. Such fun. I love buying things for the grandkids.

I hope that all of you out in cyber/blogland had a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving Day!

Turkey Day Tomorrow :-(

Well, Thanksgiving will be here tomorrow and again this year it will be just my husband and me and an eleven pound turkey. I miss my family and the huge Thanksgivings we used to have. All the kids running around and the adults playing cards after dinner. I miss it so very much. I wish with all my heart that I could have all my children and grandchildren with me for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Yet, I am thankful. Thankful that my children, step-children, grandchildren are all well and happy. I will try to be just grateful and not unhappy.

It comes and goes...

Money, that is. It seems like the day I get paid it all goes back out again. I know I'm not alone in this. Other people feel the pinch just like me, but it doesn't lessen the pain of it. I really don't like being dependent on money. I wish I could live without it.

If wishes were horses then beggars would ride.

Knitting Meet Up In Braintree

Well, I went to my first knitting meet up yesterday. We met at the Border's by my house in Braintree. What a great time! I met three very nice women and we had a great time knitting and chatting. We are going to continue meeting every Sunday.

It was very nice meeting some other people who share my passion for knitting and all things fibery. So thank you to Sarah, Madelyn and Evie. See you Sunday.

Projects and Stuff

Well, my project for my daughter, Hannah was just frogged and is being rethought. I realize that I just don't enjoy crochet like I used to. I would rather be knitting....soooo....I frogged the thing and am working on a knitted blanket of my own design. I just hope it turns out ok. I'll let you know.

Still working on my Basekt Weave socks and my Yoked Sweater. But there are so many things I want to make!

It's a very quiet Friday and I am enjoying the rather cloudy day very much. It got very cold and windy today, more like it should be in November. Though I hear tell it will be 60 degrees on Turkey Day! Yuck, I want it to snow!
